PAYLESS DRUGS

Step back in time with a trip to Pay Less Drugs on Broadway in the summer of 1946, where this neighborhood drugstore occupied the building for over 40 years.

To the left of Pay Less Drugs was Leed’s Shoes and the S.H. Kress & Co. dimestore, which opened in 1925 and today is listed on Tacoma's Register of Historic Places.

To the right of the drugstore sits the Pythian Temple, home of the secret society and fraternal organization, The Knights of Pythias. Despite being founded during Civil War times, The Knights of Pythias are still an active society to this day. While the building looks unsuspecting from the outside, inside are hallways lined with shields and red cloaks, and a password is required to gain entry into a ceremonial room called Castle Hall.
