South 7th & Pacific Avenue
We gratefully acknowledge that Downtown Tacoma rests on the traditional land of the Puyallup People past and present, and honor both the land itself and the Puyallup Tribe.
Shown here in 1886, a Native American family lounges in their longboat filled with hunting supplies along the shores located just beyond where downtown sits today.
Known for being great hunters, gatherers and fishermen, The Puyallup Tribe’s village was believed to be located along the tideflats in Commencement Bay.
